Understanding The Employer's Obligations During the Pre-Employment Screening Process
Live Webinar Tuesday, November 15 at 3:00 pm ET One bad hire can have severe economic effects on a company. Issues ranging from time, money, and energy spent recruiting, hiring, and training an employee, to costly lawsuits and workplace violence incidents have made pre-employment screenings a necessary hiring practice. When employers request that a third party agency prepare a background report on applicants or employees, the request is governed by a federal statute known as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The FCRA establishes specific procedures to follow in the procurement and use of such background reports, known as "consumer reports" and "investigative consumer reports," for employment purposes. The risks to employers who fail to comply with the FCRA's requirements are significant and may result in statutory damages, costs, attorneys' fees, and, under certain circumstances, punitive damages. In this webinar Ron S. Brand, Esq., a Partner at Fisher & Phillips LLP, will provide you with an overview of the FCRA and similar state laws, and guide you through the procedures you need to follow when obtaining and using background reports. In this comprehensive 60-minute webinar, you will learn:
Ron Brand is a partner in the Irvine office and a member of Fisher and Phillips' Employee Defection and Trade Secrets Practice Group. His practice is focused on defending employers in all aspects of labor and employment law. Ron also has substantial experience in unfair competition and trade secrets litigation. This event will be presented live by phone with a web connection available for those wishing to view the presentation on their personal computers.
