courts, as well as counseling and litigation in the area of trade secrets, non-competition agreements and restrictive covenants. Joe also frequently advises employers with all aspects of state and federal employment laws, assists employers in drafting employment and independent contractor agreements, restrictive covenants, personnel policies, separation agreements, and releases, and conducts on-site training on topics such as employment law compliance and avoidance of harassment claims. The clients with whom Joe works cover a broad range of businesses and industries, including communications, grocery, manufacturing, automotive, retail, restaurant, service, broadcasting, real estate, staffing, financial, higher education, and medical. Joe’s work has taken him throughout the United States -- in addition to practicing in Georgia federal and state courts, Joe has been admitted to practice pro hac vice in the state and federal courts of a variety of other forums, including Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Joe has achieved in and out of the courtroom. In discrimination and breach of contract cases, Joe’s successes include numerous summary judgment victories in federal and state courts across the country. In other litigation, Joe has obtained an arbitration award of over $1.5 million for a client who filed suit against a former executive who breached his duty of loyalty and usurped a corporate opportunity. Capitalizing on his litigation experience, Joe has developed an active counseling practice where he advises clients on best practices to avoid employment-related lawsuits and to protect intellectual property. He also is a dynamic speaker who conducts management training. In the area of restrictive covenants, Joe has been quoted in the Atlanta Business Chronicle regarding his expertise. Joe has been named as a “Rising Star” for a number of years in the Georgia Super Lawyers Rising Stars Edition. While maintaining a successful and vibrant law practice, Joe makes time to participate in numerous activities within the community. He is as a member of the Board of Trustees for his alma mater Oglethorpe University. He also has served as the President of the University’s National Alumni Association. Joe is active in HeartBound Ministries, a non-profit prison ministry, having previously served on the Board of Directors. Joe also coaches his son’s youth basketball team. Finally, Joe has been active in Leadership Georgia, one of the nation's oldest and most successful leadership-training programs for young business, civic and community leaders who work together for a better Georgia. Joe’s greatest achievement to date was convincing his college sweetheart Andrea to marry him in 1995.
