Howard Mavity

Howard A. Mavity is a partner with Fisher & Phillips LLP and as Co-Chairman of the Firm’s Workplace Safety and Catastrophe Management Practice Group oversees attorneys in 22 offices. Howard is a graduate of both the undergraduate and law schools of Vanderbilt University.

Prior to Fisher & Phillips, Mr. Mavity worked in construction, transportation, and materials handling in Dalton and Chattanooga. He devotes the majority of his time to responding to workplace fatalities and catastrophes, union organizing drives, and other high-visibility matters, including whistleblower claims and internal investigations.

Mr. Mavity works proactively with employers to train managers, conduct audits, and develop effective corporate wide policies and programs to avoid safety, union, and other related legal challenges. Howard has handled well over 225 occasions of union activity in 25 states, as well as representing employers in amicable union relationships. Mr. Mavity has been involved in rulemaking and comments. He is a member of the Associated General Contractors (AGC)-National Safety Committee, the Georgia AGC, the National Alliance for Model State Drug Laws, the ABA-OSHA Section, the NFPA, and various Chambers of Commerce. He was featured as one of the “Georgia Super Lawyers” in the 2004, 2005, and 2006 Atlanta Magazine survey, and the 2006 Georgia Trend Magazine, Georgia Legal Elite.

Mr. Mavity has been involved with multiple combustible dust fatality and OSHA inspections, assisted over 100 sites with compliance, and spoken about combustible dust hazards in over a dozen business and academic settings.
